Sheeraz Cafe is located in Gyumri, one of Armenia's oldest cities. Futuris Architects Russia designed the cafe's modern interior to maintain the city's picturesque spirit while incorporating traditional Armenian architecture with contemporary design. The primary goal was to create an atmosphere where conventional Armenian architecture intersects with contemporary design. As you can see, the project combined Gyumri's historical heritage with modern approaches.
The cafe's color scheme harmonizes with the city's other buildings. Every aspect of the design is meticulously selected to complement one another, creating an inviting atmosphere where people can enjoy a drink or a meal while immersing themselves in the city's rich culture.
Concept: A Design Inspired by Gyumri’s Legacy
The task was to create an environment where the past and present converge through architectural and design elements—fortunately, many factors assisted in this endeavor. Sheeraz Gyumri is ideally located in the city's heart, surrounded by historic buildings, serving as a guideline for Futuris Architects Russia’s designers. They crafted the design in harmony with the various structures. From the outside, it features dark colors, reminiscent of many buildings in Gyumri, but upon entry, one is embraced by the warm, welcoming atmosphere that visitors associate with Gyumri.
Sheeraz Gyumri also offers an outdoor seating area, providing a perfect spot to enjoy the city’s ambiance. The terrace tables and chairs are brightly colored, creating an inviting environment right from the exterior. The building's walls are dark, complementing Gyumri’s vibrant energy.
The arches, echoing the city’s historical architecture, visually connect to its heritage. The intricate patterns inspire the decorative motifs in Gyumri’s famous fountains. This blend of old and new establishes a design language that is both historical and innovative.
Materials and Lighting: Filling the Environment with Natural Elements
Gyumri is renowned for its hospitality and welcoming atmosphere, so our designers aimed to maintain that spirit. A key aspect of the café’s design was using natural materials, which add warmth to the space. Combining wood, beams, and woven details creates a cozy setting that makes guests feel instantly at home. The ceiling features fabric installations that impart an artistic touch, giving the space a sense of movement and lightness.
Material selection plays a crucial role in achieving this balance. Natural elements like wood and textured fabrics establish a tactile connection with the surroundings, reinforcing the space's warmth and authenticity. The lighting concept further enhances this dynamic, with strategically placed fixtures illuminating architectural details and adding depth to the environment. Subtle contrasts between light and shadow highlight textures and forms, enhancing the spatial experience.
The soft glow of straw lamps and carefully arranged warm lights accentuate the interior's earthy tones, reinforcing the balance between modern style and traditional influences. Thoughtfully arranged illumination showcases architectural features, ensuring that every element of the space contributes to an inviting and visually harmonious experience.
Conclusion: Balancing Tradition and Modernity
Sheeraz Cafe stands out as one of the modern cafes in Gyumri. Its design skillfully balances historical inspiration and contemporary aesthetics. By integrating Gyumri’s architectural motifs with modern design principles, the space tells a visual story that honors tradition while welcoming innovation. Arches and decorative patterns connect to the city's past, while clean lines and minimalistic touches showcase a modern design sensibility.
This innovative cafe design by Futuris Architects in Armenia aims to inspire visitors to explore this blend of past and present and discover the design that resonates most with them.
